• Trail Biking

Never too young to learn. Visitors to Karura Forest can now hire a sturdy multi-speed trail bike to use on designated forest trails.

There are three bike depots: one on the KFEET grounds best accessible through Gate A (Limuru Road) or Gate D (off ICRAF Road), a second rental point at Gate C (a.k.a. Sharks) off Kiambu Road and another at Gate F off Thigiri ridge road, the main entrance to Sigiria gate.

Northern Bike Track

Bikers take note: there is a ca. 12 km track in the northern portion of the forest. You can get there by crossing the Karura River between Junctions 12a and 33 (take the new bike route from KFEET after Junction 12). The other direct access to the trail is from the ‘Sharks Gate’ (Gate-C) entrance off Kiambu Road. The gate, which is a point of payment for entry fees, is open seven days a week, 06:00 to 18:00pm (last entry into the forest is 17:45). There is parking inside the gate and a toilet.

Bike Etiquette

Bikers, as you approach walkers or joggers, especially from behind, please shout “Coming through!” or “Track left/right!” to let folks know that you are behind them and intend to overtake on the left or right. People usually cannot hear the little ‘ding’ of your bike bell.
