The Friends of Karura Forest is a Community Forest Association is comprised of volunteer professional Kenyans and residents committed to environmental protection and sustainable use of Kenya’s natural resources. FKF/CFA was registered in 2009 under the Society’s Act of Kenya and is guided and run by an Executive Board and a dedicated team of staff. FKF work in the forest is enhanced by a corps of FKF Forest Scouts drawn from informal settlements that surround the forest and paid from forest entrance fees. Karura Forest Reserve is managed by a team comprising Kenya Forest Service managers and staff; FKF Board members, managers and staff; FKF Scouts and Clerks (peaked hats); KFS Rangers (berets and fatigues). Most of the team seen here at the Karura Forest House base, a new facility at Limuru Gate-A commissioned in 2018.
FKF Operations Manager
Peter Njui joined Friends of Karura in 2012 as a Security, Fence, and Infrastructure Manager, seconded from G4S where he had a 14-year career. He was recruited as FKF Operations Manager in January 2020. In his current role as the Operations Manager, He leads a diverse team of coordinators. He has Successfully led Friends of Karura Forest in implementing robust financial controls, enhancing staff performance, and fostering strong partnerships. His leadership skills have greatly contributed to building strong teams and implementing effective systems.
KFEET Education Officer
Lucy joined Karura Forest Environmental Education Trust team in February 2012 as the Education Officer. She is a conservation educator and nature lover. Lucy uses her position to turn into opportunity for service especially to children and promote environmental awareness. She is a graduate of Bachelor of Environmental Sciences from Kenyatta University.
Accountant and Admin Coordinator
Bonface is a seasoned finance professional with over a decade of experience in the industry. As a registered member of ICPAK, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role. Beyond his professional achievements, Bonface is passionate about traveling, cycling and has a deep love for soccer, both as a player and a spectator. He believes in the power of continuous learning and personal growth, and he is committed to fostering teamwork and collaboration in all aspects of his life.
Infrastructure Coordinator
Osbert is a professional in the construction field, having been trained as a civil engineer. He has immense experience & knowledge in design, supervision and preparation of bill of quantities from small, medium to large projects. He has attained over 20 years of experience in the construction sector.
Events Officer
Mary joined Friends of Karura Forest CFA in June 2020. Her role involves planning and overseeing events held at Karura Forest and making sure the grounds are sustainably utilized. She takes great pride in her exceptional organizational abilities and strong people skills. In addition to her event management duties, Mary is also in charge of eco-tours within the Karura Forest. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Resource Management from the Technical University of Kenya.
ICT Officer
Victor is an experienced ICT Officer who is committed to delivering technological solutions that drive FKF efficiency and growth. He is enthusiastic about keeping up with emerging technologies and using them to optimize our operations, improve our work efficiency, and enhance payment processes at the gates. Additionally, Victor oversees the CCTV & ICT infrastructure as well as systems and software administration.
Human Resource Assistant
Faith joined Friends of Karura Community Forest Association in September 2020. She holds a diploma in Human Resource Management. She is dedicated to building and maintaining employee relations, providing guidance on performance management, implementing effective human resource policies and procedures which foster positive workplace culture. She also provides support in employment processes, including recruitment, orientation and training of new staff.
Membership & Data management Officer
Doreen joined Friends of Karura in September 2020. She holds a Diploma in Travel & Tourism, Customer care, Front Office & Administration management. Her role involves keeping the membership database up to date, actively engaging with members and forest pass holders to build a connected community. Additionally, she oversees the Dog registration process by issuing valid Dog Tags to ensure that all dog lovers can access the forest.
Logistic Coordinator
Nick is responsible for the management and oversight of operation’s logistics, the forest scouts and clerks. With more than a decade’s experience, Nick brings extensive expertise in leadership, security and risk management in his role. He is a member of the international security management institute (M. ISMI®) and a certified security management professional (CSMP®). He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kenyatta University.
The Friends of Karura is a Community Forest Association comprising Kenyans and other champions of participatory forest management who are dedicated to protecting for future generations the city’s largest green area, the Karura Forest Reserve.
