About FKF

The Friends of Karura Forest is a Community Forest Association founded in 2009. It jointly manages the forest to ensure it is safe and secure for public recreation, creates a healthy indigenous ecosystem, and provides livelihoods for local communities. The association has transformed Karura into one of Kenya’s most popular destinations.

Forest Activities

Walking/Running

Enjoy leisurely walks, invigorating jogs, or organised runs. The trails are colour-coded: 5 km (yellow), 10 km (blue), and 15 km (green).

Trail-biking

Never too young to learn. Visitors to Karura Forest can now hire a sturdy multi-speed trail bike to use on designated forest trails.

Education

Engage in educational programmes that explore the diverse ecosystems and environmental significance of Karura Forest.

Enhance your visit to Karura with our informative tour guiding services. Our trained guides will engage your interests

Dog-walking

Dog-walking, especially in an urban environment is good exercise and pastime for both dogs and owners.

The FKF Nursery, located near Amani Garden adjacent to the River Café, nurtures nearly 100 000 indigenous seedlings...

Picnics

Picnics may be enjoyed at one of the five designated sites: KFEET, Amani Garden, Ruaka, Sigiria, and Karura Gardens.

Tennis

Visitors to Karura Forest are welcome to use the tennis courts at the KFEET Centre Daily from 07:00 to 17:00.

Kids' Activities

Kids' activities and obstacle courses at Karura may be enjoyed in Thigiria and in the main forest.

Awesome place to run or hike then share a meal. Went as part of a group for a running event loved the ambience. Reachable by Uber.

A lovely green getaway within the city for all nature lovers.. An interesting track for joggers walkers and cyclists.. for 5..10..20 kms… plenty of shade thru out the trail with benches and scenic spots available for walkers to take a breather.

We spent a wonderful afternoon walking through the forest, visiting the waterfall and eating at the River Cafe. The forest is beautiful and tranquil and felt safe. Would highly recommend.

We love Karura. It’s a mini escape for the city that surrounds it. We have walked, jogged, taken bikes in and just enjoyed family picnics in what we call our little Oasis.

A beautiful and peaceful break from Nairobi’s busy traffic. This place offers walking paths that transport you in a matter of minutes to the forest mood. You hear birds singing, you feel the wind and enjoy the beauty of nature in the simplest way. Relaxing and fulfilling
